With F500 series, Geoffrey D. Harcourt RDI introduced a new approach to lounging in the 1960s – one that embraced informality, intuition and the natural contours of the human body. The inspiration was both simple and personal: his partner’s habit of sitting cross-legged, a relaxed and feminine posture that encouraged Harcourt to design a chair that adapts to the sitter rather than imposing a fixed position.
F500 embodies this philosophy through its generous, enveloping shell, offering the freedom to sit in a variety of positions while maintaining exceptional comfort and support. Its sculptural form is complemented by a swivelling metal base, creating a sense of lightness and a contemporary aesthetic.
F510, F511 and F512 models further develop this concept with the addition of deep, luxurious upholstery. Available with either high or low backrest options and a choice of swivel bases – trumpet or cross – these designs provide subtle variations while maintaining the distinctive character of F500 collection.
What began as a personal observation has evolved into a globally celebrated family of lounge chairs. F500 series is recognised for its timeless design, versatility and ability to complement evolving interiors across generations. A true design classic, it continues to offer enduring relevance and appeal – from its origins in the past to contemporary spaces today and beyond.
