Swiss Design

Swiss Design is an Australian-made furniture company with a heritage in upholstery, founded by Swiss master upholsterer Markus Pluss in 1976. Originally focused on residential furniture and bespoke commercial fit-outs, the company built its reputation on quality, craftsmanship and a deep understanding of material and form.

In 2003, Darren McKinnon—after completing his furniture-making apprenticeship in Australia and further training in Switzerland—joined Markus as a partner. He assumed full ownership in 2007, carrying forward the company’s legacy while evolving its capabilities for contemporary applications.

Today, Swiss Design continues to manufacture in Sydney, combining traditional techniques with advanced CNC and CAD technologies. The company works closely with Australian designers to create custom pieces that span residential and commercial projects. With a considered approach to design, process and sustainability, Swiss Design delivers honest, enduring furniture that reflects its maker’s integrity.
